Aultmore Wind Farm

Location: Aultmore Forest to the North of Keith

Landowner: Forestry Commission

Developer : AMEC Ltd

Turbines: 13 Turbines.

This application is currently with Moray Council and no decision has yet been made. AMEC Ltd have already reduced the number of turbines twice in an effort to reduce opposition.... However the original sward of forest still remains in the planning application which makes it highly likely that if these 13 wind turbines go ahead, then at some point in the future, more turbines will be applied for.

Aside from the visual impact, building a wind farm in a forest will be damaging to the environment because

  • The felling of large areas of forest, without replanting will mean that there are still fewer trees to absorb the CO2 - turbines do not absorb CO2
  • Deforestation will increase the ground water run off risking pollution to the River Isla and to the water supplies that supply a number of residents.
  • The windfarm will be close to properties and they will suffer from noise pollution.

If you want to see just what damage is done when a wind farm is built on Forestry Commission land have a look at this sorry tale.. It's not pretty

What can you do?

Although the expiry date has passed for objections a final decision has not yet been made by the Moray Council so you can still add your voice to the protest.
